Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) FAQs

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) FAQs

What is the cost of abdominoplasty without private health insurance?

The cost of treatment varies depending on individual circumstances, hospital fees, private health insurance coverage, and the complexity of the procedure.

As a general guide, costs may start from approximately $20,000 for eligible patients with private health insurance. This may include surgeon and assistant fees, anaesthetic fees, hospital costs, surgical garments, follow-up appointments, pathology, and prescribed medications.

Following your consultation and assessment, you will receive a personalised treatment plan and a detailed quotation outlining the expected costs associated with your care.

Fees are subject to change and may vary depending on your health fund, hospital requirements, and individual treatment plan.

How long is the recovery period after surgery?

Recovery time is typically around 6 weeks, although this can vary depending on the individual, the type of procedure performed, and overall health.

Many patients choose to take approximately 2–4 weeks away from work and other regular activities to focus on their recovery. Your recovery timeline, post-operative care requirements, and return-to-work recommendations will be discussed as part of your personalised treatment plan.

Detailed guidance on activity levels, wound care, medications, nutrition, and follow-up appointments will be provided to support your recovery.

Recovery experiences and timelines vary from person to person, and individual outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

Is there any wait time for surgery?

Currently, there is no wait time for abdominoplasty surgery. Patients using superannuation may be able to schedule their procedure as soon as 6 weeks, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

How long do I need to wear the compression garment?

You’ll need to wear a compression garment continuously for at least 6 weeks, removing it only to shower. This garment helps with healing, provides support to the surgical area, and improves skin tightness by supporting skin retraction.

What are the post-operative restrictions?

  • No heavy lifting for 4–6 weeks
  • No driving for 2–4 weeks
  • No cardio exercise, weight training, or swimming for at least 6 weeks

Do I need to see a dietitian?

You are not required to see our dietitian specifically for the abdominoplasty procedure. However, it is strongly recommended that you continue seeing a dietitian regularly to support healthy eating habits and monitor your nutritional needs following your weight loss surgery.
